Follow these tips for disposing of your fireworks properly.

Step by Step Instructions

First things first, make sure the pyrotechnics are waterlogged. This goes for the duds as well. Once the smoke is fully out, take the time to soak each firework in a bucket of water. If you’re in a pinch, 15 minutes will do. It’s most important the object is wet entirely, so whether that takes 15 minutes, an hour, or a full 24 hours, don’t skip steps.

Once the object is finished soaking, dump the excess water. Then, wrap the fireworks in plastic bags. Once sealed, they are safe to toss in your garbage can. Put all of the individual bags in one large trash bag. If you’re ever unsure about what to do with a flammable object, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local fire department. Please note that fireworks are not recyclable under any circumstances.
