Test Drive 2019 Mazda3 near Charlotte NC
Vehicle Overview
Introduced in 2004, the Mazda3 is a compact car manufactured in Japan. It has been one of the top vehicles in its class since then, undergoing three major redesigns. Newly designed once again for 2019, the 4th generation Mazda3 represents one of the best values in the entire car industry. With elegant styling, a beautifully crafted interior and excellent driving dynamics, the 2019 Mazda3 is an extremely competent car that can easily compete with other brands outside of its class. Our review of the 2019 Mazda3 near Charlotte began with a test drive at Keffer Mazda, a Retail Evolution facility serving Charlotte drivers with superior service.
Exterior – 2019 Mazda3
The 2019 Mazda3 comes as either a sedan or hatchback. Exterior styling is gorgeous, no matter which version you choose. Mazda used no sharp cutlines along the body as part of their design, but rather they moved that styling element to the front fascia. The wide hexagonal grille is handsome, and the headlights extending from its top corners give the new Mazda3 a sporty and aggressive look. Mazda designers focused on the Japanese philosophy of “Kodo”, which is capturing movement at a standstill. All unnecessary styling was removed, creating a simplistic design that evokes the emotion of motion.
Interior – 2019 Mazda3 near Charlotte NC
The new Mazda3 has an interior that is on the cutting edge of modern design. While it remains a non-luxury compact car, the interior is absolutely stunning and rivals the interiors of luxury brands. Mazda has taken a minimalist approach to the design of this interior, and it works extremely well. The clean interior design is graced with high quality materials. Standard on all Mazda3 trim lines is an 8.8-inch infotainment display which looks larger than it actually is, thanks to smartly designed bezel that floats between two dashpads. The screen is out of reach for the driver, so Mazda has cleverly designed a rotary knob mounted on the console.
Mechanical – MODEL specs near Charlotte
The Mazda3 features a new torsion-beam axle, replacing the previous multilink rear suspension. The front suspension is an independent MacPherson strut assembly. A stiffer chassis now means tight body control, minimalized swaying and natural-feeling rack-and-pinion steering. The test drive confirmed that ride is slightly firmer than the previous generation, but this is a result of better mechanical tuning for more spirited driving. For 2019, a newly available predictive all-wheel-drive systemc works in conjunction with standard SKYACTIV-Vehicle Dynamics with G-Vectoring Control. This system helps predict and react to any loss of tire grip by actively monitoring many variables such as outside temperature and even the driver’s braking and streering habits. Four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated front rotors ensure quick and effortless stopping.
Powertrain – Mazda3 specs near Charlotte NC
Powering the 2019 Mazda3 is a new SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter inline-four that produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. As always, the engine is adequately peppy and Mazda’s engineers have refined the motor to be quieter than ever, resulting in luxury-car-like silence upon heavy acceleration that we were able to personally experience on our test drive. The size and output of the engine are more typical of a midsized sedan than that of a compact. The transmission is a six-speed automatic gearbox with excellently geared ratios, and the hatchback version will have the option of a six-speed manual transmission as well. For the first time ever, Mazda is offering an optional all-wheel-drive system in the Mazda3 that is sure to please drivers located in colder climates.
Safety – 2019 Mazda3 dealer
A bevy of technologically advanced safety features are available in the 2019 Mazda3. Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE uses a combination of radar and camera systems to make you aware of traffic around you, warning you of possible dangers, helping to avoid collisions, or decreasing potential harm if an accident happens to occur. In addition to advanced dual front airbags and side-impact air bags and air curtains, an additional driver’s and front passenger’s knee air bags are standard. Other advanced safety features include blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, a land departure warning with lane-keep assist, and dynamic stability control. Advanced Smart City Brake Support can actually sense other vehicles as well as pedestrians in the path of the car. If the vehicle predicts a collision, the driver is audibly warned and, if necessary, the brakes will be automatically applied. The Mazda3 also features an advanced radar-based adaptive cruise control which we enabled during our test drive. This system keeps a driver-determined speed and following distance (which is programmable) from the car ahead. With Stop & Go technology, the Mazda3 will automatically reduce the speed if the car in front reduces its speed, or even stop if the vehicle ahead stops.
